The Adventure

Have a go at this AWESOME maths challenge from 9th Box Hill and 1st Mont Albert Scouts! Can you work out the impossible grid?!

Plan

Take 9 sheets of paper, and label each with a number from 1 to 9.

Do

Your challenge is build a 3x3 grid using the numbers 1-9 so that the three numbers in each column, row and diagonal add together to make 15.

Good luck!

Review

  • What problem solving skills did you use to work out the grid?
  • Do you think there could be another way to approach the challenge?
  • How did you work with your patrol to solve the grid?
  • Did you try the variation? Was it easier, harder, or the same? Why?

Variations

For an extra challenge, try complete the grid using numbers 41-49. Every column, row, etc. must add up to 135.
